Daryl (sometimes referred to as Daryl The New Age Warrior) is the main character of the MS-DOS game Reptalia, a Legend of Zelda styled shooting game that pits you against aliens on an alien planet armed only with a gun. The gimmick of Reptalia was that if you registered your shareware copy then the developers would "personalize" your copy of the game by replacing Daryl's face with yours on both the title screen and as the in-game player. Daryl was just the stand-in for the shareware copy.
He became a bit of a joke due to the disproportionate size of his character sprite's head compared to the rest of his body and for how relatively weak he was. At one point when Draco walked into a nest of spiders and started taking damage he panicked and started pressing keys on the keyboard to try and attack leading him to exclaim "I'm pressing 'D' for 'Daryl'!!!" This didn't work, and Draco got a game over. Ever since Daryl's face has been used to denote cluelessness or ambivalence during a stream, such as when a simple mistake is made in a video game (walking into a security laser, etc).
