"Ploishing" refers to the act of clipping outside of the boundaries of a video game, usually unintentionally, and falling out of the level geometry either into the skybox or otherwise. The term is taken from a 2014 episode of Gaming Garbage, a video game comedy series hosted predominately by Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka who was occasionally joined by Dave "Shmorky" Kelly. In the episode Lowtax read the description of the game being played where the creator stated among the changes made to the game was "more ploishing" (clearly a misspelling of "polishing") prompting Shmorky to ask what that meant. During gameplay Lowtax unintentionally clipped outside of the game environment and fell into the void beneath the stage to which he responded "you were asking what ploishing was?"

The term became a recurring gag on Gaming Garbage and eventually crossed over to Gatorbox due to the two shows having an overlapping audience at the time. "Ploishing" is not the only gag from Gaming Garbage to make the jump from Something Awful to Gatorbox however as the channel mascot Trelyaan Dvorak was inspired by Dontrel the Dolphin, another game which gained online notoriety after being showcased on Gaming Garbage.
