The Terence Trent D'Arby
The Terence Trent D'Arby is the name of a speedrunning trick in the Sega Genesis game Puggsy named after the musician of the same name (now known as Sananda Maitreya). The trick is done in the level Splinter Town where a very precise jump is needed to toss an item into a well in order to open the level's secret second exit (required for a 100% run of the game). The setup for the trick involves placing one miscellaneous item on the ledge before the well, grabbing the necessary item, raising the held item to the top of Puggsy's grasp, standing on the item placed on the ledge, and then executing a quick tap of the jump button while moving forward. If done correctly, the item Puggsy is holding will slide into the one tile gap between the wall of the well and its roof. From here, simply let go of the item and it will drop into the well and the secret exit will open.
The trick was named as such as a reference to the song "Wishing Well" by Terence Trent D'Arby which was the first single released from his debut album Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby. A second reference to the album exists within Gatorbox as well as an unreleased episode from the second season of Fanfiction Factory: The Podcast showcasing grimdark Sonic the Hedgehog stories was titled "Introducing the Hardline According to Sonic the Hedgehog".
