Hurricane Harvey was a category 4 storm that made landfall in the city of Rockport, Texas on August 25, 2017. Initially a category 1 storm it rapidly intensified before making landfall causing billions of dollars in damage when it did in a radius of dozens of miles wide. Because of this by the metrics of property damage it is considered to be the worst hurricane in United States history.

Gatorbox's studio was caught in the storm and was mostly destroyed. Shortly after the hurricane passed Draco filmed a mobile video for the YouTube channel titled "The End of Gatorbox" where he stood in the debris of what was once his home/studio before signing off, presumably for good.

The hurricane put Gatorbox off the air for approximately 8 months while the property was rebuilt. Draco decided to continue the show despite the loss of property and announced the return of Gatorbox with a video filmed in a recreation of the set as it mostly was pre-storm. The red Thinking Couch was kept because fans liked it and Draco has stated he paid more to have the couch professionally cleaned and restored than he did when he initially bought the couch in the first place. He also stated that props such as the Prize Boxes and Prize-O-Matic survived the storm because a wall collapsed on top of them and acted as a shield from the elements.

Because of the storm there was not an Extra Life marathon held in 2017, however funds were still raised that year because of fans and viewers donating out of tradition.
