Sanic is an emote that was added to the Gatorbox channel as part of the inaugural 2015 lineup in the FrankerFaceZ browser extension. It is the face of a badly damaged Sonic the Hedgehog plush whose left eye has been reattached in a very amateurish manner resulting in an amusing "cockeyed" look. It is one of the few emotes still active on the channel a decade later that has not had a higher resolution version uploaded because Draco says the icon comes from a video still of a YouTube upload that he came upon by happenstance years prior and took a screenshot of to use as a reaction image. He did not mark the video as a favorite or thumbs up and as such as not been able to find the video the plush toy is from and get a better screenshot of Sonic's face.
Prior to the addition of the Mayro emote in 2019, Sanic was commonly used when glitches or bugs happen in a video game. It also routinely sees use during speedrun attempts due to Sonic's associated meme catchphrase "gotta go fast". When Gatorbox was accepted into the Twitch Affiliate program in 2017 Sanic was added as one of the first subscriber emotes on the channel (gatorbSanic). Due to its mostly frequent use it has remained available both as an official subscriber emote and a FrankerFaceZ emote.
