Gawe is an emote on the Gatorbox channel. Similar to 2cents this is an emote that was borrowed from RFSHQ as part of the initial FrankerFaceZ emoticon lineup. The emote is an amateurish representation of the ":awesome:" emoticon from Something Awful drawn by goose in 2007 using the whiteboard tools in MSN Messenger. The name of the icon ("gawe") is a portmanteau of "goose" and "awesome". Draco took a screenshot of the drawing when it was posted in the messenger app because the program did not natively support downloading of images shared via the whiteboard plugin. The screenshot was scaled down to icon size (32x32) to be used as an emote on the RFSHQ message boards. The icon version of Gawe was the one initially used with FrankerFaceZ as the original image was presumed to be lost, however in 2021 Draco found the screenshot with the drawing in its original resolution and used it to replace the compressed version with a full resolution one.
In 2022 Gawe was added to the Gatorbox Twitch channel as a subscriber emote. According to the channel analytics provided by Twitch out of all of the subscriber-enabled emoticons on the channel Gawe consistently sees the most use on the platform (both in the Gatorbox channel as well as everywhere else on the site) month after month making it the most-used emote in the history of Gatorbox.
