Jimmie Johnson is an American NASCAR driver with several championship wins to his name. Due to his successful career he has lent his name to various products and promotions including the game Jimmie Johnson's Anything with an Engine released in 2011 for the Xbox 360. Anything with an Engine was featured in a 2019 Gatorbox stream and the game's "unique" look and feel created an atmosphere around Jimmie that turned him into an inside joke within the community.
Jimmie appears in Anything with an Engine both as an opponent racer and as himself in the game's various cutscenes. However either due to budgetary constraints or a lack of knowledge on modeling/animating (or both) Jimmie appears in the cutscenes and menus as a "cardboard cut-out" who moves about by way of motion tweening. Cut-outs of his face also appear throughout the game in order to show how many points he has or to provide hints to the player. It was from these cut-outs that the Jimmie emote was created.
Jimmie's expression is ambiguous at best and its usage is one of playful sarcasm, equivalent to the "Kappa" or "FrankerZ" emotes associated with Twitch. When stating the obvious a viewer might end their message with Jimmie's face, or in another example they might make a name pun about another game along the lines of "Master Chief's Anything with a Trigger" and follow that post with Jimmie.
