Nice Hat

"Nice hat" is a common remark said by Draco in the series Your Level Sucks. It is specifically in reference to the "Ninji Hat" costume piece that your in-game Maker avatar can wear in Super Mario Maker 2. The Ninji Hat was a reward for completing one of the game's Ninji Speedrun courses. Naturally, because everyone jumped on the speedrun courses when they first launched, a large number of players had this hat. For whatever reason (Draco claims lack of autonomy and original thought) many players' Maker profiles wore the hat because "it's a new thing to play with". Given the game's high burnout rate often times players would put the hat on their avatar and then abandon the game shortly thereafter leaving their avatar to wear the hat indefinitely.

Whenever a level is loaded in Super Mario Maker 2 you can see the face of the Maker who designed it as well as the hat they are wearing, if any. Draco began to notice a trend with the quality of levels coming from people who were wearing the Ninji Hat; they were almost universally bad. Extremely so. Once Draco noticed the correlation between the Makers' headwear and their level designs he began to point it out by saying "nice hat" before each level loaded. The staggering majority of the time Draco's assumptions were correct and this would lead to a reviled stage.
